POSITION SUMMARY:

The Watson Chapel School District (WCSD) is seeking a dynamic and dedicated professional to serve as the Director of Student Support Services. This individual will provide leadership in the development, implementation, and monitoring of student services and interventions related to behavior, attendance, and social-emotional learning. The Director will ensure compliance with applicable laws, facilitate wraparound services, and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to promote the academic and social success of all students.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The Director of Student Support Services is responsible for the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of district-wide systems that support student behavior, mental health, and alternative education.

The Director will also foster positive relationships with students, staff, and the community to promote a safe and supportive learning environment. The director's responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Lead implementation and monitoring of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), including Response to Intervention (RTI) and Positive Behavior and Intervention Supports (PBIS).
• Serve as District PBIS Coordinator, providing professional development and oversight.
• Oversee behavior intervention staff and collaborate with school leaders on discipline practices.
• Lead efforts in restorative justice, trauma-informed care, and crisis response protocols.
• Collects, analyzes, and interprets data and performance measures for dissemination to improve the delivery of student support services.
• Recommends, coordinates, delivers, and evaluates professional learning activities regarding student support services.
• Serve as the Title IX Coordinator.
• Coordinate alternative learning environment (ALE) placements and transitions.
• Monitor the district credit recovery program (e.g., Edgenuity) in collaboration with building principals.
• Oversee data systems for behavior, attendance, and suspensions.
• Collaborate on annual updates to the Student Handbook and Code of Conduct.
• Serve as liaison with mental health agencies and community programs.
• Support compliance with McKinney-Vento and services for foster care students.
• Supervise parent and family engagement initiatives in collaboration with building coordinators.
• Serve as the District 504 and ALE Coordinator.
• Assist with student support service grant writing and management.
• Prepares and submits reports, presentations, and Board agenda items as required.
• Respond to stakeholder concerns and support school teams.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent.

COMPETENCIES:

• Comprehensive knowledge of student support services, including behavioral health, trauma-informed practices, and academic interventions.
• Strong understanding of federal and state laws regarding student rights, discipline, and access.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community partners.
• Ability to analyze data and implement strategies based on identified student needs.
• Strong communication, leadership, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Familiarity with crisis intervention strategies and alternative education best practices.
• Capacity to lead in a culturally responsive and equitable manner.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
• Valid Arkansas educator license or administrator's certification preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in education, student services, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience working with at-risk youth and implementing behavior or academic intervention programs.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• Must meet all federal and state requirements related to student support and discipline.
• Must possess or obtain a valid Arkansas driver's license and maintain a satisfactory driving record.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

• Experience with Windows Server OS and Google Workspace.
• Proficient in student information systems, data dashboards, and Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace.

PROBLEM-SOLVING and SYSTEM THINKING:

• Understands the interconnectedness of social, emotional, academic, and behavioral supports.
• Uses data to drive continuous improvement of student services.
• Prioritizes initiatives to align resources and personnel to areas of greatest need.
• Develops creative solutions to persistent challenges with student behavior, attendance, and engagement.

EVALUATION/ PERFORMANCE REVIEW CRITERIA:

Performance will be evaluated annually by the Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent using the AR LEADS - Administrator 2.0 rubric aligned with responsibilities in this job description.
